One of our most popular topics is on the many views of the Creation narrative in Genesis.
This is our topic on Monday October 28th, 2024. If you missed it, join our club on OrgLink. And/or text “@16rc” to 81010 to sign up for our text reminders so you never miss the topics you are interested in.
Here are the main topics that we hit when we discuss the Creation of the Heavens and the Earth.
- Start with Scripture: We read Genesis 1-3 together.
- We discuss Four Views that seek to take the Scripture seriously as God’s inerrant and infallible word.
- Analogical Views like the worldview approach or the framework approach that focus on the Who not the How
- Young Earth Views that combine Genesis with Biblical geneologies to limit history to 6000-ish years.
- Old Earth Views that see the days of Genesis as long periods of time.
- Theistic Evolution views that see God working behind the modern understanding of evolution.
- We discuss the concept of the books of Nature and Scripture, and how the above views emphasize them differently.
- We compare six different world views (materialism, panpsychism, theistic evolution, intelligent design, old earth creationism, and young earth creationism) and how they differ not just on their views of origins but also meaning, purpose, morality, and destiny.
- We dig into specific topics that figure into any discussion of origins, namely:
- Micro- and macro-evolution
- Observations over Earth’s history
- The Biblical treatment of death – both physical and spiritual
- Noah’s flood – its purpose and its effects
- We finish up with a discussion on what criteria would establish a view as Biblically faithful.
I hope you will make it to our meeting.
If you are a club or church, we would love to bring this discussion to YOU. Invite DW and the RC students to come to your organization to host this discussion.
Blessings to you in Christ!
